AGWPE Soundcard Packet

Getting Started....

APRS is a digital mode using the same concepts of "converse mode, keystroke, typing in commands" only it sends the appropriate commands automatically. Have you ever been on the internet and used an instant messaging program? how about using a program that you can use to send messages, email, view maps or even TRACK a person in a mobile on the map!! Using APRS, you can. You can get started into APRS very simple although some people get far advanced and set up IGATE servers with email capability and weather paging! A simple setup would include a packet TNC, a transceiver, and a computer for your home. A simple mobile setup would include a radio that is built for handling APRS such as the Kenwood DM-700A that has a built-in TNC. While mobile, you may want to include a GPS receiver to let other stations track you on a map. Many public safety agencies across the nation use a similar operation to track their units across the city at the dispatch center. Maybe you don't have a TNC or can't afford one...you can even use your soundcard!! There are many programs available in packet and APRS that support the AGWPE soundcard TNC. This software uses your soundcard as a decoder for digital data with limited commands and can be used with programs such as WinAPRS.
